Today, on Tuesday September 13th, the 66th UN General Assembly opens in New York Headquarters. Chaired by Qatari President, Nassir Abdulaziz Al-Nassera, this session will be marked by openess and partnership.
The consequences of the last dreadful events in Africa and in the Middle East should constitute the heart of the debates. International security, "protection responsibility" and environmental issues will constitute some of the Assembly's priorities.
The European Union will play a significant role in discussions. Indeed, the European Parliament declared its wish to improve the cohesion and visibility of the EU as a global actor in the UN. Actually, the Parliament already gave the Council recommandations about such topics as peace, justice, Human rights, climate change, that will also be treated by the Assembly.
The 193 UN member states will deal with the efficiency and coordination of humanitarian action, in the 3rd commission. The first conclusions of the International NGO Conference, that ran from the 2nd to the 4th of September in Bonn, will also be presented.
The Red Helmets Foundation will follow with close attention the sequence of the General Assembly, that, we hope, will consider the question of reforming the international humanitarian action.
And on Tuesday, September the 13th, do not forget to ask your questions to Ban Ki-moon, Secretary-General, via social networks !
