On July 3rd, 2007, Nicole Guedj, President of the Red Helmets Foundation, signed a partnership’s agreement with Antonio Guterres, UN High Commissioner for Refugees, planing the first experimentation of Emergesat container in Chad, at the Darfur’s border.
Darfur, Sudanese province which borders Chad, counts approximately 6 million people. This population, divided in some 600 ethnic groups, is distributed on a territory as big as France. According to the association Doctors Without Borders (MSF), 12,000 to 13,000 humanitarian workers are displayed in Darfur. The population’s movements, the attacks and the fights, made for the moment, more than 250,000 civil victims.
To recreate completely a real center of satellite mobile communication with high flow is the challenge which the Red Helmets Foundation wished to answer.
Since October, 2007, the Red Helmets Foundation, will give to the UNHCR, for three months, a humanitarian container will be send to Chad, to help humanitarian workers, installed in Abéché, to manage Darfuri’s refugees populations and Chadian’s moved one.
