« Challenge Humanitech »
First French student contest of humanitarian invention, the « Challenge Humanitech » offers a wonderful opportunity to college students, and urge them to be inventive and creative in order to develop innovative technological tools to make the humanitarian action easier.
There are many ways to get involved in humanitarian action: give out food, build schools, teach kids in poor areas, etc.
The Red Helmets Foundation offers to students to get involved by using their capacities and experiences to create a project in one of the two following fields:
· Sustainable development
· Telecommunication
A 5,000 euros award is given to the winner by a jury.

The 2009 contest
Sponsored by Mrs. Valérie Pécresse, Minister of Higher Education and Research, the first « Challenge Humanitech » took place in 2009.
120 students, from 25 different schools, have been part of the contest.
On the 24th of April 2009, a working day at La Cantine gavethe opportunity to the students to talk with innovation and humanitarian action workers.
All teams gathered a month later to present their project to the jury, chaired by Nicole Guedj and Valérie Pécresse. At the end of the presentation, the jury decided to award the solar still to purify water, designed by students from the

The 2010 contest
Fifteen student teams had been selected by the Red Helmets Foundation to be part of the Challenge Humanitech second edition.
These teams were composed by 4 to 6 students, with an excellent education and background : Delft University of Technology (Netherlands), Ecole d’Architecture de Strasbourg, Ecole Centrale de Paris, Université de Paris-Dauphine, ENSIETA, ESCP, ISEN Toulon, Creapôle, ENSCI-Les Ateliers …
Helped for two months by a "sponsor", meaning an innovation and high technologies expert, picked up according to the project, they met each other on the 27th of May at the Comptoir Général, for the Working Day. Though it has been tough to choose a winner, the jury agreed to award the Leaf Supply project. Created by 2 students from the ESCP and two students from the Strate College Designers , this cardboard cot can be producted very easily and comes very cheap.
Two other projects had interested the jury. “Sand grains”, a team composed by four students, was awarded, for a Mali-based school layout drawing. Thanks to a clever system built on solar energy, the project wants to ease the pump of water from a well for the garden irrigation, and to light a classroom. They got a 1,000 euros award.
At last, "Humanimap", a project designed by students from ’ENSCI- Les Ateliers , got the 3rd award for its feed aggregator (Twitter, Facebook, SMS…) to centralize and geolocalize data when a natural disaster occurs.

The 2011 contest
In 2011, the Challenge Humanitech was under the « Francophonie » (French Speaking Communities) flag. More than 150 students from all over France and famous African colleges have been part of this humanitarian invention contest. They showed their talent, cleverness and capacities.
24 projects dispatched between « Sustainable development » “Telecommunication and Web” and “International Cooperation” were presented to the jury at La Cantine.
The students did stand up for their project. The jury was impressed by the quality and efficiency of all the projects but they singled out JERRY, a information system management platform, designed by students from Ecole Nationale Supérieure de Création Industrielle (ENSCI-Les Ateliers), Ecole de Management Paris-Tours-Poitiers (ENSCEM) and Ecole Supérieure d’Informatique électronique automatique (ESIEA).
The project « Prothès Arts" designed by four students from Ecole des Arts et Métiers de Paristech (Aix en Provence) and supported by Marie-Christine Choquet, former "Doctors of the World" nurse, got a 1, 000 euros award for its cheap prosthesis.
