This week-end, the 13th Summit of the International Organisation of the Francophonie took place in Montreux. Several themes were discussed and this event was also an opportunity to reaffirm the principles of equality and fraternity cherished by the French speaking countries.

President Sarkozy notably insisted on the role that French speaking countries should play within the renovation of the global governance. In fact, their sum represents a third of the votes at the United Nations. By the same token as his speech during the Africa-France Summit, last May, the French President deplored the absence of an African representation within the UN Security Council.

An important highlight of the Summit is the re-election of Abdou Diouf, sponsor of the Red Helmets, for a third mandate as the General Secretary of the Francophonie. We also welcome the reaffirmation of the support to Haiti. French speaking countries are committed to double their efforts in favour of the country’s reconstruction.

The Red Helmets Foundation’s President, who was invited by Abdou Diouf to take part in this event, has met several heads of states including the Presidents of Cameroon, Paul Biya,  of Congo, Sassou N’Guesso and also the Vice-Prime Minister of Québec, Monique Gagnon-Tremblay.
