Decision-makers, leaders and stakeholders from the Free/Open Source movement met with the ambition to build the digital future based on open source. They wanted an event that would tie open software in with economics and social initiatives.

At OWF, new humanitarian initiatives were at the forefront with a roundtable conference on “NGO: Free/Open source against crisis”. The Red Helmets Foundation took this opportunity to introduce its ongoing technological project MISSING, a global search engine for missing persons during natural disasters. Many other NGOs in the vein of Sahana, Crisis Commons, Ushahidi and Open Street Map, illustrated how technology can be used to optimize the intervention of humanitarian actors.

A Beta version of MISSING will be released by the end of October and we invite you to take part in the test of the website (contact@casques-rouges.org). The final platform is expected to be delivered in the end of this year.
